Katy Perry's breakthrough album, One of the Boys turns 10 today.
The album spawned the megahits I Kissed a Girl (#1 on Billboard Hot 100) and Hot N Cold (#3 on Billboard Hot 100). Other singles are Thinking of You and Waking Up in Vegas. Katy's breakthrough single Ur So Gay is also on this album. The album peaked at #9 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart.
OOTB was nominated for 2 Grammys and sold over 7 million copies worldwide. The music videos released for the singles are some of the most innovative of all time.
The success of this album helped make Katy Perry one of the biggest names in Pop music today.
One of the Boys is a result of years of hard work. Katy had recorded two solo albums (A) Katy Perry and Fingerprints that were cancelled by her record labels before this time and had written and recorded a large number of other songs. Most of the songs that made it on the OOTB track list are from those earlier projects.
This album mainly has more of an alternative pop/rock sound when compared to Katy's later albums and most of the songs are more raw sounding production wise. One of the hallmarks of this album is really the songwriting and lyrics which many fans from that era found to be more relatable than her newer music and Katy was far more involved in the writing and composition of her songs at the time than she is with her later music. Her older songs also have fewer writers as well in general. Thinking of You, One of the Boys and Mannequin are written and composed solely by Katy.
Katy's album Witness has turned one year old and to celebrate Katy has sent all of us a handwritten card via Twitter.
You can see that Witness means so much to Katy that she took the time to write a handwritten card and share it with all of us.
As part of the celebration Katy has released Dance With the Devil and Act My Age (which previously were bonus tracks on the Target edition of the CD and also the UK/Norway/Japan deluxe edition CDs.) everywhere music is streamed and sold.
Katy is at this time in the middle of the European Leg of her Witness : The Tour.
First I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. Hope your holidays were merry and bright and that 2018 will be better than last year.
Katy's Witness era has been amazing so far but I wish her album and singles could have done better. Sadly I didn't make it to any Witness the Tour dates. I had tickets for the Buffalo, NY show scheduled for September but it was canceled. Her concerts are amazing from what I've seen though. Can't wait for the DVD/Blue Ray to come out.
In other news on twitter an old song by The Matrix just surfaced. It's called T-shirt and features Katy's vocals. I knew about this song for a while from the old Katy Perry Forum and I thought that it was just rumored to exist. I did recently discover (on discogs.com) that a demo CD with that song exits but it wasn't known if Katy's vocals were on the song. @smackutwice on twitter recently bought a copy of that demo on ebay and posted a snippet of the song. Thanks to @smackutwice for this wonderful find.
You may check out that snippet here.
UPDATE: The full song is finally here!
Dear fellow Katycats,
When AKateisaKate announced last week she was closing Katy Perry Forum down for good I was pretty sad. Besides the interaction with other Katycats and the good times we had there the main reason for the sadness it that everything we posted and discussed on that site for all these years is now lost forever.
I'm not sure of the reason for Kate's decision to close Katy Perry Forum (she claimed the reasons were both technical and economical) but I know the moderating staff was working to try to save the site and was planning to update it especially with Katy entering a new era with her upcoming album and tour.
One of the features the forum had was a discography/music list that covered every song known to have been performed/written by Katy. It was very extensive and it's most recent version took up several forum posts. It was started by a member who went by Tomcat and by the time Prism came out he stopped coming to the forum and I took over the duties of updating and maintaining it. Many Katycats considered it an important reference and only the KPF had a list of Katy's music that comprehensive.
I had done a major update/upgrade to the list about a month ago. I did most of the work offline so I have the entire list saved in my computer as a result of that. This is the basis of what this new site is about. The Official Katy Perry Discography, Unreleased and Miscellaneous list is the only thing from the forum that isn't lost forever and is being preserved through my efforts on this new site.
This site is a work in progress and will take days to get the entire list on here. Feel free to take a look at what I've done so far and if you have anything to contribute or just want to comment feel free to do so.
